Wondering how to recharge your FASTag? Here’s a detailed guide

If you own a car in India, then you also own two mandatory things along with it: car insurance and a FASTag. Without car insurance, you cannot legally get your car on the road and without FASTag, you cannot quite drive across the state and national highways. That’s because FASTag is required for cashless or electronic toll payments at toll plazas in India. Its Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology allows for automatic toll deductions at toll plazas, making toll payments quick. FASTag, as a product, is designed to be seamless at every stage of customer use.

It’s important that your FASTag be recharged frequently so that you never find yourself in a situation where your FASTag wallet has no balance, and you need to pay double the toll money in cash. All your FASTag recharges should be done at least 45 minutes before you need to cross a toll plaza. There are several quick ways in which you can recharge it. Read on to know more about how to load FASTag with ease.

How to recharge FASTag?

You can recharge FASTag online and offline, depending on what is convenient for you.

  1. Mobile banking app

One of the most convenient options for FASTag recharge is using the mobile banking app of your FASTag issuer bank. You need to log in to the app and find the FASTag section. Then, you simply need to enter your vehicle registration number and the amount for toll recharge.

  1. Net banking

Alternatively, you can also opt for an online FASTag recharge through net banking. For this, you need to log in to the website of your FASTag issuer bank and go to the NETC FASTag option. You will usually find this under the “bill pay and recharge” tab of most net banking sites. Then, enter your vehicle registration number or wallet ID. You will be able to see your current FASTag balance as well as the maximum recharge amount. Enter the amount for FASTag toll recharge and click on pay. The transaction will then be completed like any other net banking transaction through IMPS/NEFT.

  1. UPI apps

UPI recharge option is also available for your FASTag wallet. You can use UPI apps including Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, etc. You simply need to go to the pay/send money option on your UPI app and enter your pre-defined UPI ID for your FASTag wallet. Then, enter the amount you want to recharge, verify the details, and confirm and pay.

  1. Offline recharge

If you want to recharge your FASTag offline, you can do so at any issuer bank branch. Alternatively, you can also find your issuer bank’s representative at toll plazas and recharge your FASTag through them. This is why it’s important that you opt for a reputed bank with great customer service when buying FASTag.
